If a envelope has a length that is 2 1/2in times more then then the width and the envelope has a 36 in rubber band going around the front and back what is the length and the width

It depends on whether the rubber band is around the envelope the long way or the short way.

 

To start,

use 2.5x for length of envelope

use x for width of envelope
