You should use "may" in future tense and "might" for past. To put it simply, may indicates a possibility while might indicates a less (tentative) possibility.

Both are modals of possibility. The difference is that may is used for highly possible events (that will likely or could likely happen). We can explain to students using percentages. May expresses something that is 80% likely to happen while might is closer to 50%.
