slope is equal to "rise over run," or the change in the y coordinate divided by the change in the x coordinate.
For (-6,r) and (6,3) the slope is (r-3)/-6-6) = (r-3)/-12 Set that equal to the slope given as 1/2 to get
(r-3)/-12 = 1/2. Solve for r
Multiply both sides by -12 to get r-3 = -12(1/2) =- 6 or r-3 =-6. Add 3 to both sides to get r = -3
Check your answer. The slope is rise over run. As you go from point (-6,-3) to (6,3), you rise 6, going from -3 to 3, and run 12, going from -6 to 6.
