This is a broad answer to a specific question. I am a big fan of the DaVinci Resolve . You can easily add subtitles to your media using DaVinci Resolve. The most attractive feature of DaVinci Resolve is that it is free. “DaVinci Resolve is the world’s only solution that combines editing, color correction, visual effects, motion graphics and audio post production all in one software tool!” I own the $295 Studio version but I edited many projects with the free software.
Since you are working in Windows 8 you may want to download an older version of the software. Blackmagic Design maintains downloads for older versions. DaVinci Resolve is up to version 20 now. I have used version 16 for many years and even older ones are available.
DaVinci Resolve, is compatible with macOS, Windows, and Linux, and requires a mid to high-level gaming laptop or desktop workstation with a decent CPU (like Intel Core i7 or AMD Ryzen 7), at least 16GB of RAM, and a GPU with at least 2GB of VRAM.
