The equation is in a form called the standard form Ax + By =C
We want to change it into the slope intercept form and then we can easily find the slope and the intercept.
The slope intercept from is y = mx + b (where m is the slope and b is the y intercept
so
5x + 2y = -8 is the original (lets get y alone on one side, we can do that by subtracting 5x from both sides of the equation
5x -5x + 2y = -5x - 8
or
2y = -5x - 8 (now we will divide both sides of the equation by 2
y = (-5/2)x - 4
so our slope is -5/2
and the y intercept is -4
