Hello Kayla,
I think what you're referring to is "stopping down your aperture." For instance from F8 to F2.8, F2.8 being the wide open aperture that let's in the most light with a smaller focusing area. In DSLR photography you can chose your aperture or FStop in AV - aperture priority mode or full manual. Hope this helps!

It closes down just before exposure unless you press the "stop down" (different names on different cameras that have the capability) button on your camera to see what the depth of field is before you take the picture.08/09/19
