Hi Parvathy, let x represent the first number and y represent the second number. Set up a set of equations to solve.

Equation 1, total of the two numbers:

x + y = 64

Equation 2, difference between the two numbers:

x = y - 16

Substitute for x in equation 1:

(y - 16) + y = 64

2y -16 = 64

2y = 80

y = 40

Solve for x:

x = y - 16

x = 40 - 16

x = 24

The two numbers are 24 and 40.
