Two word distance problems.

Question

I have two questions that I really need help with.

1. Donna took twice as long to drive 720 miles and Maple took to drive 200 miles. Find the rates and ties of both if Donna's speed exceeded that of Maple by 40 miles per hour.
2. The 300-mile trip to Aunt Lucy's took 5 hours longer than the trip home. If the speed coming back was twice as great as the speed going, find both speeds and both times.

Please help!!!

Let D = Donna's speed and M = Maple's

D = M + 40

T = Maple's time, then 2T = Donna's time

D*2T=720 => (M + 40)*2T = 720 => T = 360/(M+40)

MT= 200 => T = 200/M

Set the two expressions for T to each other and solve for M

See if you can model your answer to the 2nd question on the answer I've given you to the first.

Hint: Look carefully at the time variable!
