What are the responsibilities of a web developer?

There are a couple different types of web developers.

UI/UX - design of the user's front end experience

Front End - develop the JavaScript + html + css elements

Back End - develop the API and other "back end" elements this may sometimes include database elements

Database - develop queries to create, read, update, delete - data in the db based on the users need

Full Stack - develop everything from database, back end and front end. You may also have to consider design of the user's experience in your work if there isn't a separate designer

Depending on the type your general job responsibility changes. But a web developer's responsibilities will usually be some mix of the above
