Just need some examples of the steps so I can copy the steps: How do I chose the x values?

y = 2

x = -3

-4x + y = 2

y - 4 = 3x

Your question is entirely clear.

y = 2 could be written y = f(x) =2 for all x

x=-3..x is usually the independent variable, not a function

y = f(x) =4x + 2

y = f(x) = 3x + 4
