Hi, the Domino effect seen during the start of WW1, when Austria declared war on Serbia or even when the fighting powers armies marched towards the battlefield is a clear example of how naive and ignorant these nations wereignorant of the upcoming carnage. Most Europeans believed in glorious ears, bidding farewell to their soldiers as they marched towards the battlefield, each own country believing the war would be finished by Christmas (except Serbia who fought for it's own defence).
Europe had been preparing for war for the past 40 years, with an increased militarism and nationalism sentiment from the people. The image of conquering the most countries in Africa as well as the arms race, built up a sentiment of rivalry between the main Europeans countries.
This sentiment of nationalism remained throughout the first 2 years of the war, faded away a little bit towards the end but reignited after the war ended with the multiple treaties, paving the road for more countries leaning towards nationalism and paving the road for WW2.
