You can use the formula for the surface area of a Cylinder keeping in mind that one end is open so instead of
2πr2 + 2πrh
Since one end is open you will only need πr2 not 2πr2 the radius is half the diameter so the radius is 1 inch.
The Surface area for this situation becomes
πr2 + 2πrh
