The area of a rectangle is equal to length times width and that the area is 34
1) A=(L)*(W) (L)*(W)=34
We also know that the width of the rectangle is half the length
2) W=(1/2)*(L) or L=(2)*(W)
So we can plug in L=(2)*(W) to our area equation and that will allow us to solve for W
3) (W)*(2W)=34 -> 2W2=34 -> W2=17 -> W=√17
Now we can use that length value to solve for the width
4) L=(2)*√17 L=2√17
Just to be safe we can check our work
5) (L)*(W)=34 2√17*√17 = 2*(17) = 34
