asked 05/15/19Perimeter of a rectangle
The perimeter of a rectangular outdoor patio is 64 ft. The length is 4ft greater then the width. What are the dimensions of the patio?

P = 2(l + w)
l = w + 4
64 = 2(w + 4 + w)
32 = 2w + 4
2w = 28
w = 14 ft
l = 14 + 4
l = 18 ft

Let x be the width. Then the length is x + 4.
The perimeter is P = 2 X Length + 2 X Width = 64
2(x + 4) + 2x = 64
2x + 8 + 2x = 64
4x + 8 = 64
4x = 56
x = 56/4 = 14
Width = 14 ft
Length = Width + 4 ft = 18 ft
