For this problem, we need to figure out what is meant by "how much fencing does he need?"
Well, Carson probably wants fence around his entire field, so that would mean that we're looking for the perimeter of his field. We know that length is 800 yards and width is 650 yards. The formula for the perimeter of a rectangle is 2L + 2W. Think about that for a second if it doesn't make sense. The perimeter is just the distance around a shape, so it would be L + W + L + W or 2L + 2W.
So now we just need to plug in the numbers from the problem into the formula:
P = 2(800 yards) + 2(650 yards) = 1600 yards + 1300 yards = 2900 yards
