algebra rocket question

a model rocket launched from a platform 2 feet above the ground with an upward velocity of 100 feet per second after how many seconds will the rocket hit the ground?

The formula for distance accounting for acceleration is d=vt+(1/2)at^2. Set your coordinate plane origin on the rocket platform. Your displacement will be -2ft. You have the initial velocity. Use acceleration due to gravity (which will be negative as it's acting towards the ground) solve for t.
