This statement is most definitely FALSE. The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) was formed after World War II as an alliance between the United States and its European security partners. It was created to protect Europe FROM the Soviet Union, by ensuring that an attack on any member would be treated as an attack on all members. Thus, NATO was (and still largely is) an alliance formed against the Soviet Union, and its successor Russia.
