When should a verb be followed by a gerund instead of an infinitive?
Some verbs are followed by _ing_, e.g. _I enjoy swimming_. We can't say _I enjoy to swim_. Likewise, some verbs are followed by _to_, e.g. _I decided to make a plan_. Which particular verbs are followed by _ing_ and _to_? Can you please provide a list for that? Moreover, which verbs can be followed by both without having the meaning changed?
This is an easy question. That's because you can find a list of the verbs that take infinitives or gerunds (or both) and just memorize it. They are mostly very common verbs. It's too bad in English that it's so confusing, but if you learn the patterns for those verbs, then you won't make a mistake. Here's one list. They should all have the same verbs.
