I am a Filmmaker that loves art & storytelling.
Glass was first used to protect artworks during the Renaissance period (14th to 17th centuries).
Before that, paintings and manuscripts were generally unprotected or covered with wooden panels or cloth. The invention and improvement of clear, flat glass in the Renaissance made it possible to use glass as a protective covering for paintings and drawings, helping to preserve them from dust, dirt, and damage while still allowing them to be viewed clearly.
