In order to figure out the problem, we are going to find out how many cupcakes make at least $100.
First, let's write an equation to find out how many cupcakes it takes to make exactly $100.
Let the equation to represent the problem be 3x = 100, where x is the number of cupcakes sold.
But the question didn't ask us to find an equation, it asked us to find an inequality. For if we solved for x in the above equation, we would end up with the decimal 33.3333 cupcakes. And no one wants just 1/3 of a cupcake!
So instead of the equals sign, let's replace that with greater than or equal to sign, ≥ . We use greater than or equal to because we want to make at least $100, so our revenue must be greater than $100, if not exactly $100.
So, our final inequality is 3x ≥ 100
