Hi Destinee. So we have 265 miles with 10 gallons of gas. That would look like: 265/10. The miles is on the numerator and the gallons is on the denominator. Next bit of info that we have is 424 miles. Miles go on the numerator, and gallons, which we will call "x" will go on the denominator. It should be set up like this:
265/10 = 424/x
Once you cross multiply you should get 265x=4240. Divide 265 by both sides and the answer is 16 gallons.
