Skilled Photographer and Videographer
Do not "work for exposure." You have a set of skills, and should be compensated for using them. You wouldn't tell a doctor right out of med school to set a broken bone or treat pneumonia to get exposure for his work, would you? Why should someone expect you to do so?
Show off your work. Have a website, show at coffee shops and anyplace you can hang something up. Build a portfolio of stock photography. Even just get friends to post your photos on social media, but be sure they link back to you. The more you get out there, the more you'll get back.
Don't succumb to GAS, or Gear Acquisition Syndrome. Gear doesn't make you a better photographer. Photography makes you a better photographer. Need a backdrop panel? Get creative with materials on-hand. Need light for your shoot? Open the window blinds. The best gear isn't always found in a catalog.
