16x+8=24
The goal is to get X by itself.
This is the way I learned when I first took Algebra and what I tell all of my students. When you are moving away, you say goodbye to distant friends first and the closer friends last.
This means X will get "rid" of the +8 separated by a plus sign before getting rid of the 16 (touching it).
The way to get rid of something in Algebra is to do the opposite of that operation to the other side.
16x+8= 24
SUBTRACT 8 FROM BOTH SIDES
16x +8-8= 24-8
16x= 16
NOW, GET X ALONE BY DIVIDING BOTH SIDES BY 16 TO CANCEL OUT THE MULTIPLICATION.
16X/16= 16/16
X= 1
Looks like the answer is x=1!
