Using W (Woman) and D (Daughter)...
W = 4D - 3
The sum of W and D is 37...
W + D = 37
D = 37 - W
Substitute for D and solve...
W = 4(37-W) - 3
W = 148-4W-3
W = 145-4W
5W = 145
W = 29
D = 37 - W
D = 37 - 29
D = 8
