Hey! Lets solve this shall we ?
Let the sum of two numbers equal to 24 be x + y = 24 and the difference of two numbers be x - y = 8. Now we have a system of linear equations to solve for x and y !
x + y = 24
x - y = 8 ........................Lets solve this for x first by the elimination method!
The y's cancel to get
2x = 32............Dividing 2 will get us
x = 16
Then we substitute the x = 16 into the first equation such that
(16) + y = 24.............Then we subtract 16 from 24 to get
y = 8
I hope this helped!
