Why are DSLR cameras on their way out, and mirrorless cameras in?

DSLR cameras are helpful to let you see the actual image as it is recorded. For example, a mirrorless camera will not let you see the depth of field in an image. It can be very frustating to make an image with too much or not enough depth of field to render the background as you want it.
I also like the sound of the mirror as it flips up and down.
My experiene with mirrorless cameras (rangefinder cameras) started 60 years ago with the Speed Graphic 4x5 press cameras. I had the DSLR experience with my first Pentax 35mm camera.
However, I think one of the finest cameras ever built is the Hasselblad 500 series. I made my living with several different copies of that camera for decades. It is a fantastic piece of photographic gear -- they even used them on the Moon Missions. Sadly they are in a crate and I shoot Nikon digital now.

Dslr cameras at the top end are still preferred by many, however, Mirrorless Cameras are lighter and depending on the type of photography you do may out perform DSLRs. For example Sony and Olympus can shoot up to 60 frames per second. Lenses are smaller and lighter than most DSLR lenses. It's easy to get caught up into the DSLR SLR Race. Both have their pros and their cons.
Personally I switched to mirrorless because of weight. I can carry my camera all day and not be worn out. One of the most important photography needs is the quality of the lenses and and low light abilities of the camera. Im My opinion, Advertising creates sales and often confuses as to what's best. Finally, one would need to compare what they have and need compared to what the other offers.
