The way you do this problem is systems of equations. The first system will be number of people, and the second system will be slices of pizza.
The first step is to identify variables. We know we have two kinds of people, children and adults. That leads us to two variables:
Let: C = the number of children
Let: A = the number of adults
For our first equation, we simply add up the two types of people to get our total of 764 people:
C + A = 764 (first equation)
For our second equation, we need to add up the slices that each type of person ate, to get our total slices, so we have:
2C = number of slices eaten by children
5A = number of slices eaten by adults
We add those to equal the total of 2992 slices:
2C + 5A = 2992 (second equation)
Now, use your systems of equations skills to combine the two equations. I will leave that to you knowing that this set-up portion is the hard part. Hint, you can use the Elimination method... multiply the first equation by 2 throughout to get 2C + 2A = 1528 and then subtract this from the second. Ask again if you need help with systems of equations from this point on!
