College Counseling At Its Finest
When writing recommendation letters for colleagues, I try to focus on their strengths and specifically how they would contribute to the role they are applying for. I typically include examples of how they display these characteristics: professional attitude, time management, knowledge in their field of work, problem-solving, growth potential, and communication/teamwork.
If it is applicable, you can include examples of how the applicant has overcome situations that are likely to come up in this role. For example, as a professor, dealing with students asking for extensions is a common dilemma. Stating something like "the applicant is empathetic to students' needs but is willing to go the extra mile to ensure students are able to meet the deadline" could be helpful to include.
