Does Lab color mode in Photoshop give some advantages over Adobe RGB on skin retouching?

Does Lab color mode in Photoshop give some advantages over Adobe RGB on skin retouching/frequency separation? If yes, in what cases/what advantages does it give? What would be the proper way of making use of these advantages?

Hi,

The Lab color space sometimes makes it easier to change the color temperature without affecting the luminosity. Sometimes I would merge the visible layers, duplicate the new layer into a new document, convert to Lab Color, work on the color, and duplicate it back to my original document. This way i can keep working in RGB (all tools are not working in Lab Color).
