asked 04/03/19Trying to find a missing length of a triangle
Jill is flying a kite on 100 feet of string. She holds the end of the kite string to the ground while Jack measures the distance to a point directly under the kite. If the distance from Jill to Jack is 90 feet, how high is the kite above the ground? Answer to the nearest whole foot. One length of the kite is 90 ft and the other is 100 ft. Trying to find the base

There is a right triangle.
The hypotenuse is the string 100 feet
The base is the distance between Jack and Jill 90 feet
The height is unknown but can be found using Pythagorean Theorem
a2 + b2 = c2
902 + b2 = 1002
8100 +b2 = 10000
Subtract 8100 from both sides
b2=1900
Square root both sides
b=43.5889894354 feet is how high the kite is off the ground
