Video production basics for a noob?

I am an iOS developer who wants to create a mobile app for video editing. But I do not know the basic terminology and functionality of video editing and production. Terms like video scrubbing, video ramping etc. leaves me clueless. \n\nPlease if anyone could suggest me some resources from where I can start my research about the video editing tools, features, requirements and basic terminology. \n\nThank you.

I would encourage you to look at the book The Filmmaker's Handbook. I use this book in my introduction to video courses.
