What is the literal meaning of the word "Qur'an"?

I know that the Qur'an is the book revealed by the prophet Muhammad, but I'd like to know what the meaning of this word "Qur'an" is literally? What is its root?

"Iqraa" doesn't mean "Read" It means "Recite"

"Qaraa" doesn't quite morph into Quran. Maybe it's just named after "Puran" or the Puranas (plural) (Ved Puran), the ancieant Indian texts, especially since many parts of the quran are reminiscent of the Indian texts anyway.

Exactly Shakuntala S. it goes with the rhyme, Can you tell me the meaning of puran, what it was called when it was naya.

"Many parts of the Quran are reminiscent of the Indian texts anyway"...care to elaborate? On the basis of this you're actually suggesting the Qur'an is based on Hindu scriptures?

All the divine massages are sourced from the creator let it be from any religion and therefore some similarities are obvious. Quran is actually the latest addition in the series of divine proclamations.
