Should I use speech marks for sounds?

If I were to describe a sudden sound, in this example: Boom! Were I to put it in speech marks: "Boom!" Just like in a dialogue, or to do something else, in that case what?

Hello,

If you were to describe a certain sound, you would write the words as they are if they are found in a dictionary. For instance:

The boom of the bomb was loud.

If you are using the word on its own to describe the sound of something, then you put it in italics. See this example:

The bomb exploded. Boom!
