Okay, problem 1, you need to set up the problem. Tia's wire is Tia's length divided by 10, Marta's wire is Marta's length divided by 9. Then subtract the numbers.
4 m 8 cm = how many cm? There are 100 cm in a meter, so it's... 408 cm.
Tia = 409 cm / 10 = 40.8 cm
Marta = 540 cm / 9 = 60 cm
Find the difference, and you're done.
PROBLEM 2
Let's say q is the number of quarts he needs for the inside, which is what we're trying to find.
Then he needs 19 more quarts for the outside, so q + 19 is the number he needs for the outside.
Total, he needs 107 quarts to paint the inside and outside.
q + q + 19 = 107
2q = 107 - 19 = 88
q = 44 (quarts)
PROBLEM 3
Take this one one sentence at a time.
A is 35 cm
B is 5 times A is how many cm?
T is the total for one bottle is A + B -- is how many cm?
17 bottles is 17 times T -- is how many cm?
Divide 17 T by 100 to find how many meters for 17 bottles.
