Are the photos we take on our phones truly deleted or are they stored in a “cloud”? If so, who has control over them and is there a way to ensure they are actually deleted?

The only way to ensure images on your phone are deleted permanently is to save them to a storage chip and reformat the chip when it's hooked up to a computer. even then, if you want them to be GONE GONE, is to get a program designed to wipe drives (chips). This all depends on your phone and service provider/plan. The ”cloud” is nothing more than a storage server based on a server farm in Somewhere, USA
