First you have to translate the english into math

let n= the first integer then the next integer is n+1 so the product is n(n+1), we are told that this product is 5 more the 3 times the larger so we have

n(n+1)=5+3(n+1) ok so far?

simplify n²-2n-8=0 quadratic equation

(n+2)(n-4)=0 factor

solve n=-2 and n=4 are both solutions which you can check by subbing into the original equation
