What does it mean when my friend comes up to me and says "Na"?

I think it means something like "Hello" or "How are you?", am I right?

"Na" can be used in different ways. Typically it is followed by more words, ex. Na, wie geht's? ( How are you?) or Na, was ist los? ( What's up?) Na, wo gehst du hin? (Where are you going?)
