I am a retired engineer who likes to keep busy with amateur carpentry and myriad other hobbies. My full-time job was teaching in a dedicated educational facility within a large engineering firm. The main purpose of the school was to give new employees, mostly recent college graduates, a solid foundation in mechanical engineering and other applied sciences, despite their varied backgrounds. Part of my teaching responsibility was to provide individualized help wherever needed. I have taught courses in mathematics, physics, solid mechanics, fluid mechanics, and nuclear design and analysis. I have also taught night courses for several years as an adjunct professor in the Mathematics Department of U. Pittsburgh.

Outside of work, I have tutored many students in Mathematics, Physics, Differential Equations, Solid Mechanics, Fluid Mechanics, and Nuclear Engineering, and my ratings indicate that students are happy with the results. When you are my student, I am committed to meeting your needs, and my methods are both economical and effective. Whether you need some help in understanding a subject, or have a project that you need help on, you can count on me to provide the support you need!

Calculus,

Calculus

As an engineer, I have learned, extensively used, and taught calculus. It is amazing how powerful calculus is in solving many day-to-day problems in science and engineering. It is derived entirely from the fundamental axioms of mathematics, but many times students run into a roadblock that keeps them from attaining a full working knowledge of the subject. My aim will be to remove those obstacles, and it is my sincere wish to see you become as proficient and enthusiastic about calculus as I am!
Physics

Physics

Since 2000, my full-time job is as a staff instructor in a small industrial school that provides dedicated education to engineers in various mechanical and nuclear engineering courses. Naturally, these courses require a thorough understanding of physics by the students. Physics is an extremely powerful and elegant tool for understanding and predicting the behavior of objects in the universe. My goal will be not only to remove any obstacles in your way to understanding physics, but to see you become proficient and enthusiastic about it.

Differential Equations,

Differential Equations

As a Mathematics instructor in a graduate-level engineering school, I am very familiar with differential equations and techniques for solving them. Methods for solving ordinary differential equations include: Reduction of Order, the Method of Undetermined Coefficients, Variation of Parameters, the Frobenius Method, and various numerical approximation methods. Some differential equations that involve eigenvalues generate infinite series of orthogonal functions, including: Fourier Series, Bessel Functions, and Legendre Polynomials. Partial equations can be solved either numerically or using Separation of Variables. These are just a few of the methods that I can explain very clearly to you.
Linear Algebra,

Linear Algebra

As a Mathematics instructor in a graduate-level engineering school, I am very familiar with linear algebra and properties of matrices: vector spaces, linear transformations, determinants, rank, nullity (kernel), eigenvalues and eigenvectors. These are just a few of the aspects of linear algebra that I can explain very clearly to you.
Mechanical Engineering,

Mechanical Engineering

Since 2000, my full-time job is as a staff instructor in a small industrial school that provides advanced education to engineers in various mechanical and nuclear engineering courses. Mechanical engineering courses that I am qualified to teach are Heat Transfer & Fluid Flow and Applied Structural Mechanics. Prior to teaching, I worked in industry for 12 years as a mechanical engineer. I have held an active Professional Engineer license in Pennsylvania since 1988.

Excellent Tutor

I have a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering, and I am currently employed as a senior mechanical project engineer. I approached Marty with a conceptual problem related to the systems my company designs, which involved modeling unsteady flow of a compressible gas in MATLAB. With Marty's suggestions, I was able to simplify the situation from a 2-D finite difference approach to a 1-D, quasi-steady state problem. The code provided reasonable results in a short amount of time. I would highly recommend that anyone (including other professionals) contact Marty if they are in need of engineering assistance.

Marty is the man

I took 10 lessons with Marty this summer. He tutored me on a fluid Mechanics course I was taking over the summer. All I can say is that he is the man. You will not find a better tutor, with mastery of the subject and ability to explain the why and the how. A fairly difficult course ended up being a breeze and I got an A- I can not thank him enough.

Khalil, 10 lessons with Marty

very patient

I was struggling on college level solid mechanics problems, and he was very helpful with identifying important concepts and steps.
