Using the distributive problem, multiply out the left hand side

3x + 3*4.5 = 36

3x + 13.5 = 36 (simplify)

3x + 13.5 - 13.5 = 36 -13.5 (subtract 13.5 from both sides)

3x = 22.5 (simplify)

x = 7.5
