Illustrator: Snap at some distance from existing objects?

I'm drawing a bus line map. On some streets several bus lines pass together, so parts of the lines should be parallel and on a uniform distance from each other.Ideally, I would like that when I draw a second line along the same street, it would snap automatically at a distance of X pixels away from the first line. Is this possible?

two possible solutions.

1: you can go into your preferences under general and set the keyboard increment to be a certain distance so you can move an element using the arrow keys a defined ammount.

2: better yet make a personal grid of points spaced out in whatever amounts you want and save it/ use it on a lower layer. this way you can have a master ruler used the same way as a lightbox for any situation. best part is your upper layer can snap to the points you set on that grid layer.
