Photoshop: how to apply same processing to multiple photos?

I want to make a processing in Photoshop involging duplicating layers, creating new layer and applying some effects. It is possible to store this processing as something like a macro, retrieve it and apply it to multiple images?

In Photoshop, they are called actions.

You can create a custom action like a macro, which can contain just one step, or numerous steps with user input for particular functions (such as what pixel size to make the particular image). Even better, once I create an action that I use frequently, you can further speed the process up by applying a hotkey to the action.
