Systems Of Equations HELP!

Four Apples and five bananas cost $2.00. Three apples and two bananas cost $1.15. How much does each apple and each banana cost ?

4a + 5b = 2

3a + 2b = 1.15

 

I choose to eliminate the "a," so I multiply to top equation by 3 and the bottom equation by 4

 

12a + 15b = 6

12a + 8b = 4.60

 

Subtract the bottom from the top

 

7b = 1.4

b= 0.20, bananas cost 20 cents

 

Substitute b into either equation. I choose the top

 

4a + 5 (0.20) = 2

4a + 1 = 2

4a = 1

a= 0.25

 

Apples cost 25 cents.
