If you're just beginning to explore photography some basic tips are: know how to operate your camera beyond auto focus, understand the exposure triangle (ISO, Shutter Speed & Aperture), take pictures everyday, shoot in live view to improve composition, move away from your comfort zone, don't auto correct in camera, keep a log of camera settings and lighting for the images you really like because this will provide you with a baseline to learn as much as you can from and pause to connect with your subject before you hit click.
