Hi Liam, set up a table with the information given. Let x represent the amount of $7.00 coffee:
Item Amount Total
----------------------------------------
$7 x 7 * x
$2 30 2 * 30
$5 x + 30 5 * (x + 30)
The amount of $7 coffee plus the amount of $2 coffer must equal the amount of $5 coffee.
7 * x + 2 * 30 = 5 * (x + 30)
7x + 60 = 5x + 150
Subtract 60 from both sides:
7x = 5x + 90
Subtract 5x from both sides:
2x = 90
Divide both sides by 2:
x = 45
The coffee company needs to mix 45 pounds of $7 coffee with 30 pounds of $2 coffee to get 75 pounds of $5 coffee.
