What are these letters doing in my equations? Here comes algebra!
Hi Amy--
It wants to know what value of x will make the sentence true. It's exactly like doing an equation, except that instead of finding out what x equals, you need to find out what x is "greater than" to make it work.
Start off as if it's an equation. Step 1, subtract 2 from both sides, so you get:
2.6x > - 14.5
Now divide both sides by 2.6 to solve for x:
x > - 14.5/2.6, or x > -5.576
It means that you can plug in any value of x that is greater than - 5.576, and the sentence will be true.
Hope this helps!
Matt
