Hi Dakota
My name is Brenda D
This ratio/proportion problem involves a little addition a subtraction but is mainly solved with proportions
Since the angles in a triangle add to 180 degrees and we know that one of them is 65 degrees the total for the other two is
(180 – 65) degrees or 115 degrees.
Keeping in mind that 115 is a total we must compare totals to totals to set up the proportion.
We know the ratio of the two remaining angles y/x is 7/16 and we must add 7 to 16 to get a total to compare with 115.
7 + 16 is 23
Now we can set up a proportion based a comparison of totals
16/23 = x/115 next we multiply both sides by 115
115(16)/23 = x
80 = x
Since we have x we can simply subtract to find y; y = 115 -80
Y = 35.
