The slope-intercept form is:
y = mx + b
Where m is the slope and b is the y-intercept (the point where the line crosses the y-axis). To find the equation of a specific line, you need to find the values of m and b. The problem gives you the value of m, m = -1/5. So we have half of the equation already:
y = (-1/5)x + b
To find b, simply plug in the x and y values form the given point, (-2,1), and solve for b. Remember, (-2,1) is an ordered pair, so the x value is first and the y value is second:
1 = (-1/5)(-2) + b
1 = 2/5 + b
1 - 2/5 = b
3/5 = b
So the equation is:
y = (-1/5)x +3/5
