Hello Folks,
I thought I'd give an answer here..
The patella is considered a sesamoid bone whereas the femur is a long bone.
Functionally, the role of the Patella is to help create a pulley system for the quadriceps as it contracts and brings the knee into extension.
As the strongest bone in our body, the role of the femur is to help support he weight of the body. It creates both the hip and knee joint.
