Well, there are two ways to solve this problem. The first way is with fractions. Since 24 students are going to share 12 pieces of paper, you’re dividing 12 by 24. 12 divided by 24 is basically 12/24. When you reduce the fraction, you find the Greatest Common Factor (which is 12). Divide the numerator and denominator by 12 and you are left with 1/2.
You could also look at this as a division problem with 12 divided by 24. You will need to add a decimal and a zero. Your answer is 0.5 which is also half.
