Hello Jeff,
When doing word problems it helps to underline the important or most relevant portions of the problem. In the problem presented above, it seems to me that the entire sentence is relevant. So, let's break the problem down a bit so it assists in your understanding it, okay?
+ 3 <---------"Three more than..."
2x <---------"The product of two and a number x."
2x + 3 <--------"Three more than the product of two and a number x."
Product always means the result of two numbers or variables multiplied together.
Also note, in the problem above we are told that x represents a number.
When we followed the problem we come up with the expression which is comprised of terms.
For example, 2x is a term, as well as 3 is a term.
I hope this helps and that you have a great week. Please feel free to provide any feedback, seek clarity, or ask further questions regarding the solution, by clicking on the "Add Comment" prompt and typing. When you do so, the information will populate under this solution. Best!
